Our policies and reports help families understand how our school works. Our annual report and school plan show what we’ve done and how we’re improving each year.  Our policies address attendance, absences, behaviour, uniform and how we respond to your concerns.

Annual school report

Each year, we share our progress in the annual school report. It gives families a clear picture of how our school is performing and how we’re supporting every student’s success. The report reflects our commitment to openness, accountability and continuous improvement.

The report includes:

• what we’re doing well and where we’re improving
• student achievement and academic progress
• our school vision and goals
• key highlights and milestones
• challenges we’ve faced and how we’re addressing them.

School excellence plan

Our school excellence plan (SEP) is a working document that shows our priorities in learning, teaching and leading. It explains our focus areas for improvement and how we plan to get there. We write our SEP with help from our school community so it reflects our shared priorities.

School behaviour support and management plan

Our school has a school behaviour support and management plan (SBSMP). The SBSMP helps us create a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment for all students. It sets clear expectations for student behaviour. This includes how we respond to bullying and cyberbullying. We work together with our school community to shape the plan and review it each year.

Mobile phone policy

Rationale and Objectives

Chipping Norton Public School supports the restrictions of mobile phones in accordance with the NSW Department of Education: Students’ Use of Mobile Phones in Schools policy Student use of mobile phones in schools. Mobile phone use in schools can impact student learning and wellbeing. Restricting mobile phone use at school aims to increase focus in classrooms, remove distractions and promote positive social interaction, while reducing the potential for online bullying. Chipping Norton Public School has strong teaching and learning practices to support students in the classroom using various forms of appropriate technology, which maximises the benefits and minimises the risks of digital environments and prepare students for life beyond school. We foster a safe learning environment which supports and enhances each child’s social and emotional health through our wellbeing and learning support teams.

Chipping Norton Public School has elected to use the following approach. All mobile phones will be handed in and stored in the School Office for the full school day, including recess and lunch. This must occur every day as soon as a child arrives at school. The phone must be switched off. The school office will store the phone safely and securely in the Strong Room until the afternoon pick up from 3pm. This is an approved NSW Department of Education option and will limit unnecessary distractions and complement our ongoing approach to ensure every student maximises their learning and social growth in a safe and supportive environment.

Exemptions

Chipping Norton Public School understands there may be students who have a medical, wellbeing or learning need which will require them to access a mobile phone as defined in their plan. If this is the case, please make an appointment with the school principal in order to determine where an exemption will be applied for on behalf of a student, as well as the adjustments to any school-based practices and procedures.

Contacting students

Chipping Norton Public School understands there will always be emergencies when parents need to get in contact with students or vice versa during the school day. We try to keep this to a minimum, with the exception of emergencies, to avoid disturbing the students’ learning. Parents and carers can make contact with the school through the school office on 02 97241565 or chippingno-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au and students will also be able to contact parents or carers through the school office if urgent.
